SWAN’s focus on healing our wounded veterans and their family members comes directly from the diverse military population served through the SWAN Helpline for Legal and Social Service Referrals. Clients include service women and men who are stationed domestically and internationally, veterans, military families, DOD and VA civilian employees, veterans’ service providers and advocates. Callers receive compassionate peer support and guidance from an experienced woman veteran caseworker, and legal service, social service and counseling referrals to pro bono partners. SWAN’s Legal Director assesses the legal needs of our clients, provides representation, or refers clients to other legal representation within our network of pro bono legal services. Additionally, the Helpline Caseworker and Legal Director work to bring service providers together and facilitate dialogue to reduce redundancy in services and more efficiently serve veterans. Cultural competency trainings and technical assistance are provided to service providers so they are more prepared to deal with the unique needs of the veterans’ population.

SWAN’s Yoga for Vets NYC Program offers two free classes each week for veterans, their families and veterans’ service providers at Integral Yoga Institute in NYC. Classes are taught by women veterans and focus on the specific physical, psychological and emotional needs of veterans. Click here for more information.
