SWAN PROJECTS
What Every Girl Needs To Know About the U.S. Military – Enlistment Information
SWAN, the Women of Color Resource Center and the War Resisters League partnered to provide true experiences of military service women who can speak to the realities of life in the military and demystify the illusions often marketed by military recruiters. This brochure shows the myths and realities of the messages often promoted to target young women. It also serves as a resource for current military personnel serving their country, to contact organizations who promote soldiers rights.

Speakers Training Project
SWAN, with the support of WCRC is developing a space to empower military women to tell their stories to communities, schools, and young audiences about their military service. Women veterans share how military service has impacted their lives as women, mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, and their communities.
Care Packages for Military Women
It is SWAN’s intention to put the “care” in care packages sent to reach out to military service women currently stationed in the middle East. The goal is to let them know that we know they are there and we are holding space for their safe return, while creating a path that will ease their transition back to civilian life.
Healing Workshops and Retreats
SWAN will be hosting retreats for women returning home. Women are in need of nurturing and feeding the aspects of spirit and heart that become numb after years of silencing ourselves in order to survive military service. We plan to utilize a combination of therapies that are consistent with women’s needs and their personal requests for healing modalities. This is a great opportunity for allies to participate in the healing process to strengthen the core of women communities.
Girls’ Guide to War
The Girl's Guide to War is a comprehensive tool that will include essays, resources and current statistics for women who are considering joining the military, women on active duty and women veterans. Told in a fun, candid, shoot from the hip manner, this unique guide will provide tips, testimonials, sound advice and facts to empower and educate women so that they can make informed decisions about their experience in the military.
Connecting the Dots Project
SWAN is dedicated to growing our network by connecting military service women - and is willing to travel to make it happen. As we know many of our soldiers are recruited from small towns. This makes accessing the nearest VA or Vet Center to seek support or treatment incredibly difficult. SWAN members have learned that making personal connections and providing insight to the process of receiving assistance often help soldiers feel supported when taking steps towards receiving treatment. It is SWAN’s plan to initiate a tour to reach out to soldiers nationwide including Native American Reservations and small towns that are often left out of the support loop.
