Service Women’s Action Network (SWAN) understands and respects the desires of its website visitors to protect their privacy. The following privacy policy details the types of information we gather, how we gather it, and how we protect it. Please note that it is not required to supply personal information to use the SWAN website. We have features of our website and organization that do require personal information, such as signing up for our newsletter, sending us an e-mail, donating on line, or buying merchandise at our store. All of these features are optional, and the information we gather through these features is not and will never be sold or shared unless reasonably required by law.

Please also note that this policy does not apply to information collected off-line. Information gathered through community programs, petitions, interview requests, etc. is unique from the website. This policy also does not apply to external sites that we link to. Those sites have their own unique privacy policies.

The only personally identifying data that we collect is data that you provide to us on a voluntary basis. This data will be used in the context in which you provided it. Ie, if you provide us your e-mail address when you register for the newsletter, we will use your e-mail and your first and last name if you provide it to send you automated newsletters and solicitations for donations. If you purchase a product from our store, we will use your address to ship your product. If you provide financial information for a donation or purchase, that information will be used only to verify voluntary financial transactions. Any other personal information submitted for a donation may be used to identify you as a supporter of SWAN. Any information submitted in conjunction with a purchase at our store may be used to send you information about SWAN and our activities.

Any correspondence conducted with SWAN via the website is archived for future correspondence. We use your e-mail address to respond to you and also to send you information, updates and newsletters unless you instruct us to remove your e-mail address or “opt-out” of these e-mails by following the instructions to do so in the e-mail itself or by sending a message to us directly through our contact form.

We, like many organizations, use tracking data that tells us more about our visitors. This includes information about a site visitor’s browser or operating system, internet provider and referring site. This tracking data also tells us things like how many of our visitors are recurring, how long they spend on the site, and what pages within the site are visited most often. This data is not linked to any personally identifying information and is used only to improve our website or to describe our web activity to funders.

We use third party vendors for services such as e-mailing, website hosting, order processing and financial clearance, and other services of an administrative nature. We share personal information with these vendors so that they can fulfill these services. In some cases, you will be asked to share your information with these vendors knowingly, such as through pay-pal when ordering from our store or nycharities.org when making a donation. These sites have their own unique privacy policies but know that SWAN only uses vendors who are well vetted and have a reputation for security and trustworthiness.

We take reasonable steps to ensure the security of your information, but we cannot issue a 100% guarantee about the security of the web or the security of your information while in transmission.
